From Johann Crüger’s Musical Library
Sacred music at Nikolaikirche also underwent a period of transformation as a result of the Reformation, continuing well into the 17th century. In 1650, the cantor at Nikolaikirche Johann Crüger created a collection of music appropriate for church services, surprisingly including not only Lutheran choral music but pre-Reformation works and current pieces from Catholic Italy. This concert series with choral works from Johann Crüger’s library complements the exhibition and invites the audience on a musical journey through history.
